FREE KIDS ACTIVITY KIT AT NATURE CENTER 

Kids 12 and under can receive a free Nature Kit (while supplies last) during their visit to Shumway Oak Grove Regional Park's Nature Center. The center is open weekends from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free, parking $6 cash. For more information, or to book a school tour, call the Nature Center at (209) 953-8814. 

CELEBRATE 2025 WITH POE-TREE/MUSIC JAN. 1 

Start the New Year on a positive note with poetry (Poe-tree) & Music on the Trail Wednesday, Jan. 1 at 1 p.m. at the Nature Center at Shumway Oak Grove Regional Park. Enjoy an easy, reflective walk to include poetry and music: participants are encouraged to bring a favorite poem or two (tree or nature-inspired?) to share as well as an easy-to-carry musical instrument (like flute, recorders, hand-pan). Bohemian garb not required but heartily encouraged! . FIRST 2025 ASTRONOMY IN THE PARK JAN. 4

The Pleiades, The Hyades, Venus, Mars and Jupiter will all be on display at the first Astronomy In The Park for 2025 on Sat., Jan. 4. Come early to Shumway Oak Grove Regional Park for astronomy activities in the Nature Center, sunset is at 5 p.m. Event is free (weather permitting), parking $6 cash. FLYER

WOODLAND WINTER WONDERS NATURE WALK JAN. 5

Ever "wonder" what's going on with some of the plants and animals in the Oak Woodland? Then join us for Woodland Winter Wonders on Sunday, Jan. 5 at 1 p.m. at the Yokuts Trail, Shumway Oak Grove Regional Park. BIRDING AT NATURE CENTER JAN. 19 

Join us for Birding for Boomers (and everyone else!) on Sunday, Jan. 19 at 1 p.m. at Shumway Oak Grove Regional Park's Nature Center. We’ll take time to experience the birds (and other wildlife) that wish to visit us that day, and learn about tips for birdwatching young. Bring binoculars if you have them. If weather is iffy, we’ll do some activities inside the Nature Center. Free event, $6 cash parking. FLYER

FISH PLANT AT SHUMWAY OAK GROVE

Shumway Oak Grove Regional Park now has fish! We just received 500 lbs. of Rainbow Trout! Gather your fishing equipment and camping chair and head out to the park! Kids fish free, $5 cash for anglers 16 and older. Parking $5 cash weekdays, $6 cash most weekends and holidays. 

MOORING, FISHING DOCK CLOSED AT WESTGATE LANDING

Due to safety concerns, boat mooring is closed at Westgate Landing Regional Park. The park's fishing dock remains closed for repairs, although bank fishing remains available. Both areas are closed until further notice. 

PARKS TO BE CLOSED CHRISTMAS DAY

San Joaquin County Parks, including Micke Grove and Shumway Oak Grove regional parks, will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 25 as we celebrate Christmas Day. All parks will resume normal operations Thursday, Dec. 26. On behalf of all of us at Parks, we wish you a Merry Christmas!

FIRE RESTRICTIONS LIFTED AT WESTGATE, REMAIN IN EFFECT AT OTHERS

San Joaquin County Park officials have announced that fire restrictions are lifted at Westgate Landing Regional Park in Lodi, allowing campers and day-use guests access to campfires, stoves and grills. Officials are reviewing conditions at Dos Reis Regional Park in Lathrop and Stillman Magee Regional Park in Clements, where restrictions remain. Propane camp stoves can be used at Dos Reis only with water readily available, stoves must be elevated on a table or tailgate and be clear of overgrown vegetation or trees. Please check back for updates for Dos Reis and Stillman Magee regional parks.
